Heller MPP student Nikki Tishler has a post published on the Feministing blog. She writes about new legislative tactics being used by pro-life groups at the state level to limit practices like telemedicine. Check it out.
How the pro-life movement is winning the war on women
March 11, 2013 by Hear Heller
Great post, Nikki! I think you’re spot-on about what’s going on at the state level. These past few years have been a real lesson for progressives about the power of the states: conservative takeovers of legislatures around 2010 opened the way for attacks on voting rights, the war on women, and ensured the current composition of Congress by controlling redistricting.
In addition to the notorious trans-vaginal ultrasounds and forcing the closure of abortion clinics through over-the-top regulations, one of the most shocking situations I’ve learned about recently is that 31 states allow convicted rapists parental rights to fetuses conceived through that rape. That’s not a new situation but it seems to be one of the most stupidly cruel ones.
